Bill of Materials & Batch Composition Calculator – Capsules
- Purpose: This calculator assists in planning and calculating capsule batch composition, accounting for all formulation parts, API assay correction, and excipient adjustments. It generates a detailed batch composition table ready for review, printing, or export.
- Enter the Product Name for identification and print records.
- Enter the Batch Size (total number of capsules to be manufactured). Only whole numbers are allowed.
- Add Ingredients for Each Part of the Formulation:
- Intra-granular / Dry Mix Part: Required for wet or dry granulation processes (as applicable). For direct filling, do not enter details in this section.
- Binder Part: Required for wet granulation processes. For direct filling, do not enter details in this section.
- Blending Part: Required for wet or dry granulation processes (as applicable). For direct filling, enter details here as applicable.
- Lubrication Part: Required for wet granulation, dry granulation, or direct filling processes, as applicable.
- Encapsulation Part: Required for capsule formulations.
- Select Type = API for any Active Pharmaceutical Ingredient. This selection is mandatory.
- Enter Assay (as-is basis) % for API rows in the Assay % column. If the assay is reported on Dried, Anhydrous, or Ignited basis in the COA, first convert it to Assay (as-is basis) % using our 🔗 Assay (as-is) for Active Pharmaceutical Ingredient Calculator. The calculated Assay (as-is basis) % should then be entered here. The calculator automatically adjusts the quantity using the formula: Corrected mg/cap = (Entered mg/cap × 100) ÷ Assay %.
- The Corrected mg/cap column displays the adjusted quantity per capsule after API assay correction.
- Tick Compensating Agent Eligible if an excipient can compensate for API assay differences (e.g., Lactose, MCC). Normally, only one excipient should be selected; the calculator adjusts the first eligible ingredient automatically.
- Use Mark Evaporates only for water or solvents that evaporate during processing and do not remain in the final product. Applicable only in the Binder section.
- Click Calculate & Show Table to generate the complete batch composition table.
- Use Export to save as CSV/Excel or Print to generate a report. Always review the printed or exported report for correctness before use.
